Salman plays Asin’s protector

Toodley too doo hoo my dimsums! A jasoos from Dubai just called to tell me about Salman Khan’s protective ways with Asin. Yeah, the two sitaras had taken off to the Gulf for the first night-out of their musical London Dreams, while co-star Ajay Devgan and producer-director Vipul Shah opted to promote it on desi shores.

Point to be noted is that initially, the two stars were to reach the venue in separate Limousines. But apparently, Sallu suggested that instead of going alag alag and akele akele, Asin and he should travel saath saath, in the same Limo.

Of course, Asin couldn’t refuse… Specially since he’s a senior star and they had become good friends during the shoot of the musical. But there was another problem — she was wearing a gown and the way it flowed, it kind of swept the floor.

So Sallu ensured that her outfit didn’t get dirty and played the chivalrous hero to the hilt, apart from playing mentor and protecting her when the crowd tried pushing closer to the stars at the theatre.

Now now, before you get any ideas, my jasoos reiterates that Sallu and Asin are just very good friends. Yeah, but of course. Who said anything else?

Asin walks out on Abhishek

After the failure of What’s your Rashee?, Ashutosh dived headfirst into his next period drama based on the Chittagong uprising of 1930. Going back to what he does best, Ashu roped in Asin to play the female lead. In an earlier interview, he had not confirmed this, saying, “Yes, its true that Abhishek is a part of my film Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se, and he essays the part of Surjya Sen. As far as Asin goes, I have approached her for the role, but it is too soon to comment on it.” Currently working on the pre-production matters of the film, Ashu was in for a rude shock when Asin backed off from the film at the last minute, citing date issues.

The director was left surprised. A source close to the actress however revealed, “It's not date issues. Asin doesn’t want to take any more chances with her next. London Dreams, while critically appreciated, did receive a lukewarm response; Asin was completely sidelined in the film and barely had a role to talk about. She faced the same issue during Ghajini when Aamir hogged all the limelight, and she couldn’t believe she made the same mistake again. Considering the recent closeness between Ashutosh and the Bachchans, Asin is sure that he wouldn’t pay much attention to her role and would devote his time and energy in promoting Abhishek in the film. Also, the failure of What’s Your Rashee? concerned her deeply, and now, she is being very careful with choosing her next film. Asin wants a full-fledged meaty role in her next to prove her acting prowess.”

Now, Ashutosh, along with pre-production matters of his film, will have to start searching for his female lead again. We wonder who would he settle upon, considering he's irked half of the industry's ladies with his unruly comments on Priyanka. Maybe Ash would come to her hubby's rescue finally!

"Do heroines really hate each other" asks Asin

HTML clipboard

You would have thought with her only film

(The 19th Step with Kamal Haasan and Japanese star Tadanobu Asano) hitting a rough patch, the lovely

actress Asin Thottumkal might be depressed.

Instead, she’s enjoying the monsoon and forced vacation at her new 3BHK in Versova where her neighbours are Sridevi and Tabu.

Asin’s under contract so she can’t comment on the reasons for her
film being stalled. But she chirps happily, “I will complete all my endorsement work now and read scripts.”

When Asin’s car first drove into the building complex where she now lives, it was Sridevi’s younger daughter Khushi who ran up to her. According to Asin, “Sridevi herself is an absolute picture of grace and she welcomed me to
Bollywood with open arms.”

Tabu, who resides in the building opposite, hasn’t yet met her to say hello. “But we met at the Filmfare Awards and shared a jacket because the air-conditioning was so strong,’’ says Asin. At the same function, she bumped into Preity Zinta who gregariously hugged and welcomed her to Hindi cinema, as well. “And at the Femina Miss India contest, where I shared a podium with Sushmita Sen, her daughter Renee sat on my lap for the longest time,’’ recalls Asin.

Naturally, she wonders why the media exaggerates the so-called cat-fights between
actresses. “Do actresses really hate each other,’’ she asks. “I’ve been lucky in this aspect,’’ adds the South sensation who made a niche for herself last year with Bollywood’s highest grosser, Ghajini. “Sonam is my best friend in Mumbai,’’ she smiles.

They have been making plans to hangout and do girlie things, but haven’t got around to partying yet because of their individual work schedules. She also fails to understand why the media harps on about actresses giving each other the royal ignore because Deepika Padukone and she are buddies.

“We SMS each other as often as possible and we’re even set to shoot for Farah Khan’s talk show together,’’ she reveals. “Just because we’re competing for the same roles, it hardly means we can’t be civil with each other.”

We’ll check out the scorecard when the honeymoon is over.

Asin stalked in Singapore

HTML clipboard

Recently, gorgeous actress Asin was stalked by an unidentified man when she visited the beautiful country to attend an award function. The stalker has been following the actress ever-since she landed in Singapore and traced every movement of hers.

The man got so courageous with his moves that he tried to get closer to Asin, when she was in her hotel lobby. But thankfully, the hotel security guards instantly got into action and caught hold of the stalker, relieving Asin from any danger.

The stalker was then whisked away from the charming actress. These kind of unfortunate incidences are common with the celebrities, and their fans should understand what kind of mental trouble they cause to the stars by making such moves. – Sampurn Media

Is Asin keeping her enemies closer?

HTML clipboard

Seems like the Bollywood honeymoon is still not over for Asin, as the sinfully delicious actress seriously feels that actress can compete for the same roles and still be friends.

After being in news for sharing a dozen SMS everyday with Ranbir Kapoor’s girlfriend Deepika Padukone, Asin is hitting the airwaves again for being buddies with Anil Kapoor’s little girl, Sonam.

Being friends with Deepika and Sonam connects her with two of the most influential Kapoor clan of the Bollywood industry. Asin is a smart girl who knows to connect with the right people to move up in Bollywood.

At 23; Asin may be young, but she is definitely not naïve. A superstar down south long before Deepika and Sonam even signed their first films; Asin has been doing movies ever since she was 15 year old. She is well aware that her competitions in Bollywood are the young breed of actress, not the established ones.

All this talk of being friends with Deepika and Sonam, doesn’t go down too well if one remembers Asin’s spat with Genelia. Ms Congeniality Asin gets her claws out at the mention of Genelia.

Ahem Like they say, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Asin and Sonam are friends

HTML clipboardIf Salman Khan dumped his rivalry with Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya shook hands with Sonam Kapoor then Bollywood new brigade Asin and Sonam Kapoor also finds a true friend on one another. Both bonded over parties and spend quality time at one another’s home. After making her base in Mumbai, Asin has found a good friend in Sonam and she accepted her friendship with Anil’s daughter even in an interview.

Sonam’s presence in Asin’s life is a great relief for her as she is new in Bollywood and yet to understand how the glamour industry works. Asin believes that Bollywood actresses are not only involved in cat-fights but they can also be good friends.

Well, we can see some new friendship coming up but let’s see whether it is long lasting or will get faded away with upcoming professional commitments.

Asin and Dhoni together

HTML clipboardAsin Asin the new import from south, has signed a big endorsement deal for a retail chain. And she will be seen opposite none other than Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni.

Post Ghajini the southern belle is on the top of the world. She is now the face of seven major products in India. Her girl-next-door image, matched with a beautiful face, just lights up the screen. She became popular with her Tanishq and Mirinda ad, while still waiting for ‘Ghajini’ to release. In fact, the actress is said to be earning more through endorsements than films.

Now, Asin is set to be the brand ambassador of Big Bazaar, a popular brand of retail super market with more than 100 stores spread all over India. It is a part of Pantaloon Retail India Ltd, a Future Group Enterprise.

Asin is reported to have signed the deal for a big undisclosed amount. A photoshoot has already been done and the ad will be shot after Dhoni returns from the New Zealand tour.

When it comes to endorsing products, our cricket star M.S Dhoni is also on a roll. He is working with stars like Saif Ali Khan , Bipasha Basu , John Abraham and now Asin. The swashbuckling cricketer is now a big brand name himself. And about Asin, a survey by a national agency claims, “Among movie stars, she is the hottest to endorse consumer goods.”

Endorsing is not only an easy means of making quick bucks, it also helps stars to market themselves. Katrina Kaif , Hrithik Roshan , Akshay Kumar , Kareena Kapoor , Deepika Padukone , Aamir Khan , Abhishek Bachchan , Genelia D’Souza are some of the actors who are ruling the TV sets now through their various advertisements.

Asin to replace Katrina

Asin

HTML clipboardThe ‘Ghajini’ gal Asin is going to replace one of the leading ladies of Bollywood, Katrina Kaif in the Yashraj project. Asin after playing the ladylove of Aamir Khan is getting ready to play Shahrukh Khan’s darling in the upcoming Yashraj's untitled project. Initially, Katrina was to play the lead but her name was dropped due to the on-going tussle between Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. King Khan does not want to connect with anything which is directly or indirectly related to Salman Khan and so he has withheld Katrina’s name.

Luck favored Asin and she got to sign Yashraj project as her Priyadarshan project with Akshay Kumar postponed to March 2010. It was Akki who suggested Priyan to cast Asin opposite him. As the project dates back to March next year, the south sensation got free dates to sign Yashraj project. Post 'Ghajini' success, Asin has become the most demanding actress of Bollywood. Not only films but she has also in her kitty some fabulous product to endorse.

Today, she is looking forward to ‘London Dreams’ opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan.

Asin's missing aide traced in AP

Asin

An aide of actress Asin who had been missing for the past 10 days has been traced to Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh. He has reportedly admittedto blackmailing the actress, the police said Thursday.

N. Muthu Kumar, Asin's assistant for the past four years, went missing last week. His mother S. Vadivu told police that he had been kidnapped at the movie star's behest.

Kumar is in Puttaparthi, Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Rangarajan told IANS.

"A close associate of Kumar informed us today that the former assistant of the actress admitted to blackmailing her and was hiding in Andhra Pradesh out of fear of arrest and prosecution," Rangarajan added.

Asin is shooting abroad for Hindi film "London Dreams". She has denied the charges and has reportedly "cooperated" with the police to trace her aide.

Vadivu had claimed last week that Asin and others had detained the physically challenged Kumar under duress to allegedly hide their "family secrets". However, she did not reveal what the secrets were.

Unperturbed Asin at the product launch

Asin

Unperturbed by the recent incidents related to her former assistant Muthukumar,
Asin was confidence personified at the launch of Cavin Kare’s Fairever Fruit
Fairness Crème’ in Mumbai yesterday. She has been the brand ambassador for this
FMCG giant for the past four years. She looked ravishing in a bright red gown
which seemed to accentuate her beauty and smile.

While launching the product, she said, “The new Fairever Fruit Fairness Crème is
the best choice for today’s young and contemporary woman who needs not just
fairness but also a healthy glowing skin.” According to Cavin Kare, the All New
‘Fairever Fruit Fairness Crème’ has the natural goodness of Apple, Papaya and
Strawberry extracts that not only enhance natural fairness, but also give a

Asin: Mollywood Star at Bollywood

Asin

The hot Malayalam beauty Asin may well be the most sought after new face in
the Bollywood circuit but then there seems to be some issues that are
currently making rounds. While some are saying that Asin has got success into
her head and her attitude has been quite unbearable, there are those who say
that her repeated denials of many projects are the cause for this
misunderstanding.

Reliable sources say that Asin insists on speaking Malayalam only and that
too with her father only which makes her quite aloof and extremely difficult
to reach. Wonder what she has to say to this.

This hottest bird in Bollywood, right now, is said to have been slimming down
greatly. While it has nothing to do with gym or anything, Asin says that the
secret behind that is she gets to have her food at home and even when she is
on the shooting, she tends to get her box from home.

However, that has not stopped her from having a bite or two of the sweets.
Asin says that she has a heavy breakfast and this works out for her.

Asin's aide 'missing', family says actor responsible

Family of a man employed with
Bollywood actor Asin has alleged that he has gone 'missing' because of abuse by
the actor. Asin has denied the charge.

"The concerned person N. Muthu
Kumar has left my employment and we informed the police immediately. Other
accusations are false," the actress said in a statement Thursday.

According to S. Vadivu, her son
Kumar was employed with Asin for four years.

"I am worried as Asin's father Joseph said that Kumar was sacked after he joined
the Mumbai underworld several days ago. While my search in Mumbai was fruitless,
the facts do not add up because Kumar told me over phone sometime back that he
was likely to quit after the actress abused him over his physical handicap,"
Vadivu told IANS.

Greater Chennai Police
Commissioner Sangram Jangid said: "The issue is being blown out of proportion by
a section of the press. The complaint has been forwarded to the appropriate
authorities and there is nothing more to it."

Asin is currently shooting for
London Dreams as the female lead with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan.

Asin on Verve

Asin

After her award-winning Bollywood debut in the record-breaking Ghajini, she`s being touted as the flavour du jour and has been inviting comparisons with the legendary Sridevi herself. for us at the dinner table.

the promoters of TATA SKY believe that she has a pan India appeal and she could
bring up the sales of the product.

Asin’s comeback venture

Asin

Asin will be making her re-entry into Kollywood in a much
bigger way than ever expected. The movie ‘19 Steps’ is the film that will bring
her back to the Tamil filmdom.

The fact that she is doing an important role in an international flick that is
being made in Tamil, English and Japanese takes her way ahead than her
contemporaries.

Speaking to the media Asin said “I am now going to learn martial arts for the
film which offers me a great chance to portray a character in a script written
by the veteran M.T.Vasudevan Nair”.

One another thing that makes ‘19 Steps’ a film to watch out for is due to the
director- Bharath Bala. The man who has given the Indian viewers some amazing
music videos and advertisements is debuting as a film director through this
movie. And everyone hopes that he with his distinctive style of visualizing will
bring in a lot of freshness to the big screen.

This is for the second time that Asin is teaming up with Kamal Haasan. Kamal
plays the role of an Indian martial arts guru in the movie. The popular Japanese
actor Tadanobu Asano is the other lead actor of ’19 Steps’.

He will be portraying the role of a Japanese Samurai Warrior who comes to the
state of Kerala to imbibe all the fighting techniques of the ancient martial art
Kalaripayattu.

'19 Steps’ is to be produced by Walt Disney Productions and
the majority portions will be canned in Kerala.

Asin meets media in Kerala

Asin

Asin who shot to fame in Bollywood with her debut film Ghajini, is not
just a lucky girl. Today this pretty girl from Kochi is looked upon as the next
big thing in Bollywood. Asin spoke to the Kerala media for the first time in
Thiruvananthapuram

When did you decide to enter Bollywood?

It was not a calculated move. It just happened that when Aamir Khan saw me in
Tamil Ghajini and he decided to repeat me in his film.

Asin's 19th step

Asin's 19th step

Wednesday Aug 27 6:25 PM
Asin, the wonderful and beautiful actor of South India, has grown busy in Bollywood. But what is she doing there? Read on. Well, Asin has two very important projects in her hands now - one is a Bollywood project and the other is a Hollywood project. First, let us see what she is about to do in Bollywood. Asin will act opposite Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan in London Dreams, a Hindi film which will be directed by Vipul Amruthlal Shah. The rights of this yet-to-be-made film have been sold for a whopping Rs. 120 crores. Yes, it is unbelievable! But there is a valid reason. Vipul Shah's recent release Singh Is Kingg is a super hit and all his previous films (Aankhein, Waqt, Namaste London) have done well. Moreover, the film has Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan, and a fresh whiff of air called Asin! Yes! Asin is also one of the reasons for the film's high price. Undeniably, this is a matter of pride for every South Indian. Next, Asin will act in The 19th step, produced by Walt Disney, starring Kamal Haasan and acclaimed Japanese actor Tadanobu. This film - to be made in English, Tamil and Japanese - will be directed by Bharat Bala, who has made more than 500 commercials and along with A.R.R. gave a new dimension to our national song 'Vande Maatharam'. Apart from this, he has made Hari Om, an internationally-acclaimed film, which received several awards including the New Voices Award at Bangkok International Film Festival, Audience Award for Best Film at Puchon International Film Festival (South Korea), Best Film Award at Salento Film Festival (Italy), etc. The 19th step will be the first Indian film on martial arts; it speaks about Kalaripayattu, which is claimed to be the source of all Oriental martial art forms. Boy, Asin is sure going places!

'19 Steps' is my next big film, says Asin

Thiruvananthapuram, March 8 (IANS) Asin, who shot into popularity with the film 'Ghajini', made in Tamil and then in Hindi, is now aiming to scale even greater heights in the multi-lingual film '19 Steps' to be directed by Bharath Bala.

'The film is being produced by Walt Disney and a good portion will be shot in Kerala. Kamal Haasan plays an important role in the film which also has popular Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano. This is going to be made in Tamil, Japanese and English and would commence in the second half of this year,' Asin told reporters here Sunday.

'For '19 Steps', I am now soon going to learn martial arts because the story line demands that,' said Asin.

This film, being written by veteran Malayalam scriptwriter, M.T.Vasudevan Nair, tells the tale of a Samurai warrior trying to conquer the ancient Indian martial art of Kalaripayattu.

Kamal Haasan plays the role of an Indian martial arts guru.

Asin, who studied in Kochi, made her debut in the Sathyan Anthikkad-directed 'Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka' in 2001 when she was just 15 years old. Since then she has acted in both Tamil and Telegu films besides 'Ghajini'.

Now settled in Mumbai, she said that she is selective when it comes to roles and after her debut Malayalam film, she just could not work in any other Malayalam films.

'I got a few offers but somehow it did not work out,' she said.

Asin said she is now completing her second Bollywood film ' London Dreams' in which Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan play key roles.

She said her success in the industry was due to the full support her parents gave her and that they allowed her to take her own decisions.
